Celebrate Arbor Day!
This tree planting holiday, is celebrated on different dates in different states, Idaho's Arbor Day is the last Friday in April, April 27th in 2012.
Coeur d’Alene celebrates Arbor Day throughout April with a series of events:
- Arbor Day Button Art Contest – Mid-high and High School students are invited to submit artwork for the annual Arbor Day button. The contest announcement will be available in February and the art submissions are due by early March. The winning artwork is put on buttons that will be distributed to fourth grade students and at several Arbor Day events.
- Arbor Day Poster Contest – Fifth grade students in Coeur d’Alene will receive information about this contest through their schools. The winners will be recognized at Coeur d’Alene Arbor Day Celebration.
- Seedlings for Fourth Grade students – The fourth grade students in the Coeur d’Alene, Post Falls, and Lakeland school districts will receive free tree seedlings for Arbor Day. The seedlings are purchased with donations for local forest products companies, tree services, and nurseries. They are individually packed and tagged by volunteers and distributed by urban and community foresters.
Seedlings at the Library– Seedlings are given out at several children’s programs at the Coeur d’Alene Library during the week leading up to Arbor Day.

ARBOR DAY CELEBRATIONS
Coeur d’Alene will hold their Arbor Day Celebration on Saturday, April 27th at Cherry Hill Park (1718 N. 15th Street). The celebration will begin at 9:00 a.m with a free pancake breakfast. There will be an Arbor Day Button Art Display and an Arbor Day Poster Art Display. The ceremony will start at 9:45 an arts award, Tree City USA recognition, ceremonial tree planting, door prizes, and free tree seedlings to all attendees. From 10:30 to 12:30 we will be giving away free wood chip mulch (bring your own pick-up truck, garbage can, or bucket).
